Media & Civil Society

Monitoring Gender Issues in Sudanese Media

As part of the work of SUDIA's Media Monitoring Unit, SUDIA and partners are carrying out a six weeks long media monitoring project focusing on gender issues and their position in the Sudanese media.

Programme Aim

To work with and strengthen civil society and ensure its effective role in areas that represent key obstacles to democracy within the current context of Sudan. These include – Media and Access to Information, Human Rights; Gender; and Civil Society

Programme Description

The programme facilitates the provision of technical assistance and services to a range of national and international partners.

On a macro level, the programme works with the private sector, media and government to create an enabling environment which is supportive of broader civil society activity.

On a micro level, the ADP contributes to building the capacity of individual Sudanese CSOs and ensuring that they are active, diverse, significant, and well distributed geographically throughout the country.

Programme Outcomes

  1. Establish a baslineline of information and knowledge about civil society in Sudan and its role in Sudanese society.
  2. Creation of an enabling environment for CSOs and mutually advantageous collaboration between Government and CSOs.
  3. A progressive and developed Sudanese media that is alert to its role and supportive to democracy development. 
  4. Appropriate, affordable and accessible range of capacity building and tehcnial support services for Sudanese CSOs.
  5. A greater understanding on the part of the private sector about the usefuleness of programmes of corporate social responsibility invloving CSOs.
