About the Service
The Civil Society Organizations (CSO) Advisory Program is being implemented through a partnership between the Sudanese Development Initiative (SUDIA) and the German Development Services (DED) and aims to support and reinforce capacity of civil society organizations in contributing to sustainable local development in Sudan. The program emerged in response to a need for greater effectiveness and participation on the part of civil society in addressing the development challenges facing the country.
The CSO Advisory Program seeks to achieve its aims by focussing on capacity development of civil society organizations that are actively working in any of the following thematic areas –
- Poverty Mitigation
- Human Rights (including Women Rights)
- Reproductive Health including HIV/AIDS and FGM
- Reintegration and Development of IDPs
- Community Driven Development
Program Services
The Advisory Program provides the following services to the CSO community in Sudan (primarily serving North Kordofan and Khartoum States) –
- Institutional Needs Assessment
- Organizational and program development advise
- Skills and knowledge development for staff in the form of professional trainings
- Small-scale funds for events and activities that fall within the thematic areas of the program
- Linkages to donors and funding opportunities
- Networking opportunities
- Operational support (for a limited time and only under certain circumstances)
Eligibility & Qualification
Institutions that are eligible to be considered for the program must –
- Be a non-profit, a-political, non-governmental legal entity registered in Sudan, or able to provide evidence that their registration is underway;
- Have their registered headquarter or branch in Khartoum or El-Obeid
- Key factors that will be considered in determining if an institution shall qualify for support include –
- Degree of activity and servicing of mission and objectives
- Degree of sound governance and functional board/executive body
- Level of transparency, management and financial accountability
- Gender diversity within the board, staff and volunteers
- Extent of conflict sensitivity considerations in planning and implementation of interventions
Program Procedures & Steps
Common steps which comprise a collaborative relationship between a CSO and the Advisory program -
- Introduction to the program and its services – upon first contact by a CSO
- Institutional needs assessment report/document to be produced through a self-assessment as well as participatory assessment with the CSO advisor
- CSO develops and submits its proposal for capacity development in light of the needs assessment
- Capacity development intervention is implemented.
- Supervision, monitoring and final evaluation at the end of the cooperation
- Report - financial report/liquidation
- Follow up or phasing out
