Countering Hate speech and misinformation on social media

This project seeks to respond to the prevalence and proliferation of hate-speech and misinformation on social media within the Sudanese context by acquiring a better understanding and evidence-base on the phenomena which can then be used to (i) develop and pilot innovative counter-initiatives and actions and, (ii) engaging with policy and decision-makers in coming up with improved policies, laws and practices legislation, policies, and practices to curb the spread of hate speech and misinformation on social media.

SUDIA will carry out monitoring of social media platforms (Facebook and Twitter) to acquire an informed understanding on the prevalence and proliferation of hate-speech and misinformation on three specific topical issues that have been identified as disruptive to the on-going democratic transition in Sudan.
